Jenna Alban manager at ESS Clinic in South Woodford talks to WEL about her love for Christmas, family, travelling around the world and seeing her clients happy with their treatments
Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Jenna Alban and I am the manager at ESS Clinic in South Woodford. The clinic offers both aesthetic treatments and minor surgery procedures. We also provide NHS dermatology appointments for patients who are referred to us by their GP.
Where do you live and why?
I have lived in Chigwell with my partner for just over two years. We absolutely love it. It is nice and quiet, and perfect for our first home together.
What is the best part of your job?
There is never a dull moment. I am always busy and something different happens every day. I like the fact that one day I may be working from the office and the next manning reception. I enjoy meeting people and nothing gives me more satisfaction than seeing our clients happy with the results of their treatment.
What is the worst part of your job?
I find it hard to switch off from work but I am getting better at finding a balance between work and home life. My job involves a lot of multi tasking and prioritising, which can be quite stressful at times.
How do you like to spend your time with your family?
I am very close to my family. I go to my parent’s house most Sundays for dinner. We try to organise a family holiday every few years and recently returned from an amazing holiday in South Africa. Family time is very important to me.
What is popular at ESS Clinic at the moment?
Minor surgery is very popular. Unfortunately, any procedures that are deemed cosmetic are no longer available on the NHS. All ESS doctors are also specialists in dermatology therefore, GPs tend to recommend that their patients contact us if a surgical procedure is required. Aesthetic procedures such as anti wrinkle injections and dermal fillers are also very popular particularly in the lead up to summer and Christmas. Everyone wants to be looking their best for the party season.
Where do you like to go with the girls?
I love catching up with friends over dinner and a few glasses of wine. We tend to stay local and go to Loughton, South Woodford or Brentwood and every now and then into London. We are very lucky to have such a nice choice of restaurants and bars in Essex and I love that the city is only a short tube ride away.
Do you have a guilty pleasure?
Anyone that knows me is aware that I love to travel. I love to explore new countries and I have a long bucket list of places that I would like to visit. My favourite countries so far are Australia, South Africa and Iceland. It’s been an expensive few years!
Are you looking forward to the festive season and how will you be celebrating?
I love Christmas and everything about it. There is always so much going on. We try to go abroad for a weekend to one of the Christmas markets. Last year we went to Berlin and it was beautiful. I usually spend Christmas Day with my family and boyfriend. The day consists of (too many!) presents, a huge Christmas dinner and a good few glasses of prosecco. In the evening, our neighbours join us for a party, which usually lasts well into Boxing Day morning.
How do you relax?
Now that the weather is getting colder, I love a night in on the sofa in my pyjamas with the candles lit and a good film.
What is your biggest achievement in your career so far?
I graduated from university with a 2:1 in sport and exercise science and swore that my studying days were over. A few years later when I started working in the medical industry, I enrolled on to two courses – primary care & health management and leadership & management. It was hard work but I successfully completed both courses and graduated with two diplomas. I am now proud to be a director of ESS Clinic.
