Claire Hurst, owner at Beauty On The Mill in Woodford Green, shares her love for her family, being entertained and reveals why one of her favourite smells is tinsel

Who are you and what do you do?

I’m Claire Hurst and I am the owner of Beauty On The Mill.

Where do you live and why?

I live in East London. It is a wonderful
area to live, with a variety of culture to experience.

Are you a lady who lunches?

Lunch! What’s that! Usually have a working lunch, but when I do get the chance I like to grab a coffee and cake, and catch up with friends for a good old gossip.

Hostess or being entertained?

Being entertained definitely! I give my all Tuesdays to Sundays in the salon, so on my days off I like to concentrate on me, myself and I.

Which is your favourite local boutique and why? Inside job in Woodford Green is my favourite shop at the moment. With its help and advice, my salon looks stunning and inviting. My chandelier and wallpaper are to die for!

What is top on your bucket list?

Having had the privilege to have done a lot of travelling when I was younger, I have seen a lot of the world, but I would really like to experience the Northern Lights in all its glory. The colours, the atmosphere the experience.......

Which beauty product do you swear by? Where do I start! My Dermalogica skin perfect primer is my swear by product and it is a handbag must.

Which local restaurant is top of your culinary list and why? I love food! My favourite at the minute is Mezze Ocakbasi in Woodford Green. It’s an amazing restaurant with a delicious menu and wonderful staff. I can totally recommend the grilled fish kebab.

What is your earliest memory?

Travelling around the South of France with my family in what seemed at the time a huge American camper van. My dad would always drive whilst trying to understand mums not so good navigation skills, until we found sunshine. They would always find the most beautiful unspoilt places and my dad taught us all how to fish and how not to get the fishing line stuck in the trees! Happy times.

What luxury could you simply not do without? You should see my dressing table. I just can not do without any of my products! From my Dermalogica products, perfumes and let’s not forget the make-up.
I am a beauty therapist after all.

What is your favourite smell?

Fresh linen is the one for me. There is nothing like a fresh bed-set for a good nights sleep. Also going to throw this one out there- tinsel, it smells like Christmas don’t you think?

Where is next on your vacation wish list? Brazil. I would love to visit the Rio carnival, dress up in all the colourful outfits and dance the night away.

Beach break or city break?

Beach every time! Sun, relaxation and
a few cheeky cocktails!

What makes you smile?

My mum! She is hilarious, especially when she isn’t trying to be. Her brain works in mysterious ways and her mouth often opens before she has even had time to think. I love her so much.

Do you have a claim to fame?

I would not say it is a claim to fame, but I am very proud of myself for making Beauty On The Mill what it is today. I started the business on my own and I am so happy of its success within such a short space of time. I am truly grateful for the support of all my wonderful clients and all the continuous recommendations.
