Buckhurst Hill’s Alexander Vesselinov who became a karate red belt at just four and a half years old

Tell us a bit about yourself

My name is Alexander and I am nearly five years old. I go to Avon House School and in my spare time I love to do karate.

Where do you live and what do you like about it?

I live in Buckhurst Hill. There are lots of things I like about it such as Luigi’s restaurant (Il Bacio), the playground, the library and, of course, the forest! I also like the Legends people who cut my hair.

Tell us about your family

My family is Mummy, Daddy, my sister Michaela and me, Alexander. Mummy is kind, Daddy is funny and Michaela is a karate girl, she is nearly a black belt. I mean, not yet because she is ten, but she is 1st Kyu and that is right before a black belt.

What’s the best thing you’ve done this year?

Our holiday in Barcelona. It was the best because all the police there were my friends. They gave me a badge and let me try their police motorcycle and even showed me their special police van. I also loved the pool at the hotel and they had the best strawberry jam.

Who would you most like to be like?

Spiderman! I want to be like Spiderman because I can save people and I’ll be the good guy and I’ll karate the bad people!

How do you relax?

I like to watch videos on my iPad – my favourite ones are with PJ Masks, Paw Patrol, Little Bus Tayo and the ones where Spiderman drives cars. I like videos about cars.

Tell us a joke

What do you call a sheep without legs? A cloud!

What’s your favourite food?

Bananas because they are nice and sweet and give me energy.

What would you never eat?

I would absolutely never, ever eat a tomato!

Do you have a claim to fame?

I am the youngest red belt in the United Karate Association because I got it at four and half years old. My Sensei Ian said even the other Senseis were older than that when they got their red belts.

What would be your superpower?

Spider webs, because I can climb very fast and catch the baddies with them! No one would be able to get away from me and I can also shoot my spider webs to save people if they fall.

What would you like to be when you’re grown up?

I’ll be a fireman and I will save people because I’m not afraid of danger.
