A nine and ten-year-old ice-skating duo are hoping to follow the lead of a former British champion and really ‘Let it go’ on the ice! WEL talks to sisters, Isobel and Natasha Holdom

Who are you and what do you do?

We are ‘double trouble’ sisters, Isobel and Natasha Holdom, we go to Woodford Green Prep School and we love ice-skating.

Where do you live and what do you like about it?

We live in North Chingford in a road with a huge forest one side and a nice high street on the other, so we have the best of both worlds.

Tell us about your family?

Our house is all about the girls! As well as us there is Mum and two gerbils called Cotton and Lunar. Dad and our dog Truffle tend to hide from us as we’re much noisier.

What is the most exciting thing that has happened to you over the past year?

It is something that is coming… we have our first international skate competition in September. We’re really lucky as it is coming to Lee Valley; we’re both skating to songs from Disney’s Descendants.

Who are your biggest influences?

In skating it’s definitely our coach Stewart. He’s really funny and makes you feel really relaxed. But as we get better he gets tougher! He coached Jono Partridge who was ranked 1st in the UK in 2010 and now has the lead in Frozen on Ice production. We’d love to achieve what he has.

Where do you see yourself in five years’ time?

Hopefully competing at a higher level, we’re quite competitive against each other too so if one of us masters a move, the other will do everything to get it too. It would also be great to do some show skating as that’s more fun.

How do you relax?

We like a lot of the same things: watching films, reading (especially Harry Potter), riding our bikes in the forest…and in case Stewart is reading this, doing our skate stretches!

What makes you smile?

Mostly being on the ice, even with the really early starts we always want to go. But apart from that we can be quite different for example, Isobel loves fruit and strawberries, they make her eyes light up. But the only ‘fruit’ Natasha will eat is in the form of jelly bean flavours, she’d eat those by the ton.

What is your worst habit?

Natasha drives everyone mad with her shoes; she always kicks them off no matter where she is, and she leaves her clothes lying around everywhere.

Isobel can sometimes be caught sucking her thumb, usually when she’s really tired.

What music motivates you/helps you unwind?

Both of us really like the usual girlie stuff like Taylor Swift, Little Mix and Zara Larsson, but Natasha also loves Sean Paul! She’s a secret rapper at heart.

What do you have planned during the summer holidays?

We’re going to Spain and to Portugal, but Stewart is also running a skate camp so we’ll be spending a lot of time at Lee Valley too. There are no holidays from skate lessons.

Do you have a claim to fame?

Well, not directly, but Stacey Solomon’s Mum Karen is one of the coaches at Lee Valley so we see her every week. Does that count?

Tell us something about you that may surprise us?

Natasha can move one eyebrow ‘James Bond’ style, she’s been able to do that since she was a baby; she’s always been very theatrical!

Isobel seems so dainty but is very strong; she’s been thrown from horses several times, but she just gets back up again.

If you could mix the two of us together you’d probably get a really good skater.
