Hayley Cramer, 26, tells all about her musical family and performing live on stage with guitar hero Slash

Where do you live?
Buckhurst Hill and Brighton.

What do you like about where you live?
I grew up in Brighton, which has a great atmosphere and a brilliant music scene. I moved to Buckhurst Hill just before Christmas and its everything that living by the sea isnt. I love living near Epping Forest, its so beautiful. It feels like a lovely place to be and it has a good spirit.

Tell us about your family
I come from quite a musical family. My mum is a teacher, my dad is a bass player, my brother is a drummer, my sister is a singer and my granddad plays the triangle.

What do you do?
I am a drummer, songwriter and a drum teacher at Loughton Music Academy.

When did you first start drumming?
I first started when I was 12. My brother was playing drums professionally and I looked up to him and wanted to have a try. The first time I had a go on his kit I got a great buzz from it and it sounds crazy but I knew straight away that this was what I wanted to do with my life.

What is the most exciting thing that has ever happened to you over the past year?
I have been spending a lot of time writing with my band, McQueen. It is our second album and Im very exciting as it should be coming out later this year. I have also started to teach drumming at Loughton Music Academy, which I love. Its an amazing college and the staff there are so passionate about all their students and giving them a good education. Im also writing a set of three drum books.

Where do you see yourself in five years time?
Hopefully doing exactly what Im doing now, but perhaps in a bigger and better way.

Who are your influences?
The Police, Queens of the Stone Age, Led Zeppelin, Taylor Hawkins, Muse, Velvet Revolver, Avenged Sevenfold, Buddy Rich, Coliutta, Minniman and Black Light Burns. I could go on and on, I love anything with good bass, drums and melody.

What are your hobbies?
I love reading and jamming with any musicians I can find. My family are very special and so any chance I can get to spend time with them is cherished.

How do you relax?
The only time I really relax is when I am asleep. I find it very hard to sit still; Ive always got something on the go.

What makes you smile?
Seeing a childs face when they achieve something they thought they couldnt do. It really is priceless.

What is your worst habit?
Not being able to relax.

What is your favourite song or piece of music and why?
I dont have one particular favourite song as I pretty much love all music from rock and metal to classical and country. I even have a guilty pleasure of cheesy 1970s disco.

Do you have a claim to fame?
With McQueen Ive toured all over the world and with some great bands such as Velvet Revolver. I have played on stage with Slash of Guns n Roses and Velvet Revolver fame. Hes a legend and has really backed us.
