When rapper Yungen teamed up with Craig David to make a video of their new single at Mr. Barbers Loughton, guess who made an unexpected cameo?

Look closely at the Yungen and Craig David video that accompanies their new single ‘Intimate’ and you’ll recognise a few familiar sights. First off there’s the setting, Mr. Barbers Loughton, with its uber cool chrome, wood and retro vibe interior – no wonder Sony thought it would be a great location for the shoot.

Then there’s the fact that several of the staff make an appearance, cutting hair alongside Craig David who confidently takes the clippers to Yungen’s crowning glory. But perhaps best of all, (well in our humble opinion anyway), is the magazine that the beautiful brunette on the sidelines is reading when the camera slowly hones in on her. Yes, that’s right, it’s West Essex Life, all ready for its close up! Okay so Michael Dappah aka Big Shaq also makes a cameo appearance, but we all know who’s the real star of the show. Joking aside, seeing the September issue get such a public airing couldn’t have made us more proud, and it’s all thanks to Mr. Barber’s co-owner and founder Sam Prior. “The guys wanted a magazine as a prop,” recalls Sam, who only found out via social media that his store was being considered as a possible location just three days before the actual shoot. “I am all for supporting local businesses, so West Essex Life was the obvious choice.”

The day itself (it was shot one Sunday in July) sounds like a blast, with the artists and their entourage enjoying beer and banter with Sam and his staff.

“I even brought along my daughters, who got to meet the artists and have their pictures taken with them.”

While admitting that he isn’t a big fan of rap music in general, Sam found himself won over by ‘Intimate’. “On the way home everyone was singing it, so it’s definitely very catchy,” he laughs.

Asked to sum up the experience is one sentence, Sam doesn’t hesitate: “It was incredibly surreal and an amazing opportunity for my young barbers to appear in a music video with such talented artists,” he offers. And of course for West Essex Life to get in on the act too!
