Whether you’re searching for special gifts for family and friends, or would like to sample some delicious food and wine, one of these West Essex Christmas markets is the place to be.

1. Winter Wonderland, Colchester Castle Park

Held in the award-winning landscape of Colchester Castle Park, surrounded by 24 acres of scenery, Winter Wonderland looks set to be a great day out. Visitors can experience the magic of ice skating, the thrill of fairground rides and soak up the atmosphere in the winter market. Ice skating is £11.50 for adults, £8.50 for children (5+) and £4 for toddlers. The event will take place on 27 November - 3 January, opening between 10am and 9pm. 2. Canvey Island Christmas Event, Canvey Island Town Centre

May your day be merry and bright, for the Christmas lights ‘switching-on’ ceremony will be one of many things to enjoy. There will be lots to see and do, including local entertainment, a funfair, stalls, games for the children and Santa on his sleigh. Head over to the Cats Protection stall for full information about the branch. It’s a great day out and perfect for Christmas gift ideas. 3. The Spirit Of Christmas Market, Rettendon

Nothing gets you into a festive mood better than enjoying a delicious carvery meal at The Lodge Inn, which has its own marquee that’s perfect for meeting up with family and friends. You’ll also find a variety of stalls to treat yourself and others in time for Christmas. Don’t miss out – take part in the raffle for the chance to win a fabulous selection of prizes. 4. Billericay Christmas Market, Billericay High Street

Step into Christmas at the Billericay Christmas Market for some truly festive fun, with something for all the family to enjoy. From 180 seasonal stalls including a continental market to live entertainment and the return of Santa and his little helpers, the entertainment is never ending. Head down to Billericay High Street to join Santa’s parade, led by a pipe and drum band straight to his magical grotto. 5. Waltham Abbey Christmas Fair

There’s a treat in store for all ‘Frozen’ fans. This year at Waltham Abbey’s Christmas fair, there will be a special visit from Elsa, who’ll have her very own grotto where children can meet her (or Santa) in person. Other attractions include a face painter, arts and crafts stalls and a hog roast and delicious mulled wine to keep the grown-ups warm. Entrance is £2.50 for adults, including entry into a prize draw. 6. Culver Square Christmas Fayre

The annual Culver Square Christmas Fayre returns once again, and is being held in aid of Headway Essex, a local brain injury charity. It was such a success in 2014 that it has been increased from two to three days. Prepare to feel the buzz of Christmas fill the centre – you don’t want to miss out. 7. St Thomas More Christmas Craft And Vintage Fair, Westcliff on Sea

St Thomas More High School will be hosting an exciting pop-up style Christmas craft fair. Find the perfect gift you’ve been searching for with a wide range of handcrafted items. From handmade clothing and vintage accessories right through to home décor ideas, there are gifts and treats to suit everyone. 8. Charity Christmas Shopping Event, North Weald

The kids will love the North Weald Airfield Museum’s Christmas Fair, where they can visit Felicity’s Fairy and Angel Kingdom, and a Christmas Grotto. It’s held indoors, so there are no worries about the weather, and the warm glow of twinkling lights is sure to get you into the Christmas spirit. There will also be a variety of quirky stalls to browse – take a look at the second-hand book stall or visit the museum shop for more unique gift ideas. It’s on Saturday, November 7, from 10am – 4pm.
