Being so close to London it can be difficult for local bars to make their mark. We think it’s time our locals got some love, so here are 7 places perfect for a cocktail, G&T or a nice glass of vino.
The Wanstead Tap is far more than just a bar; it’s a craft beer shop, café, cinema and performance space too. The bar stocks one of the largest selections of craft beer to be found in London with over 100 different beers to choose from. They also boast an interesting range of unique, limited release gins and vodkas that are all sourced locally.
There’s so much going on at The Tap; it hosts regular cinema nights, supper clubs, comedy shows and book readings. Whatever you’re interested in, the Wanstead Tap is sure to accommodate.
Lizard Lounge in South Woodford is all about the craft. They serve the best cocktails around made by expert bartenders. The selection of drinks on the cocktail menu is extensive and the 2 for £10 cocktail deal until 8pm is on 7 days a week so it’s great value too. Be warned, the Lizard Lounge is renowned for its loud music particularly on the weekend, so if you’re looking for a quiet drink and conversation time your visit for early evening in the middle of the week when things are a bit quieter.
For anyone who fancies themselves as a mixologist, the Lizard Lounge holds a cocktail master class that takes place everyday from 4pm – 6pm at £30 per person.
Located on the Woodford Broadway just 50 yards from the Woodford Underground Station on the Central Line, this bar couldn’t be better placed. As the only bar in Woodford Green, Seasons is popular for the local 25’s and over, especially in the evenings.
They serve a fantastic range of cocktails and provide live entertainment every weekend.
This quirky Wine Bar in Buckhurst Hill has a great atmosphere; it’s unpretentious and very comfortable whether visiting for a quiet drink or socialising with friends. It was opened in 2011 by owner Sevi who very quickly established it as the popular haunt for the people in and around Buckhurst Hill.
The Queens Rooms is unique in that by day it is a relaxed café, very reminiscent of 1920’s Parisian café culture but by night becomes a fine wine bar providing delicious food and an incredible selection of wines. We recommend the Rib-eye Steak!
Bar One Twenty opened in North Chingford back in 2010 when innovative owners Katie and Jonny Spanjar saw that the area lacked “a decent boozer” and decided to create their own. The unique and intimate atmosphere that they have set up is perfect for a relaxing evening with friends and the extensive drinks list means there’s plenty to choose from.
One Twenty is passionate about supporting local suppliers and the beers, wines and spirits on sale reflect that. The wines are supplied by Winefactor on Station Road and the beer is from Abbey Beers in Waltham Abbey and the East London Brewing Company. There is a small but imaginative cocktail menu available too.
Situated in the heart of Loughton this champagne and wine bar is the ideal location to wit back and unwind with your favourite drink. The weekday atmosphere is relaxing and comfortable, perfect for an after-work drink with friends but if you’re looking for a celebration, visit on Friday and Saturday for a lively tipple.
The drinks list is extensive, providing a lovely selection of wines and spirits, you’re sure to find something you like. Please note that this establishment is for over 21’s only.
The Speakeasy Bar in Epping is a throwback to the authentic traditions of the 1920’s, serving a fantastic array of cocktails and spirits from around the globe. Just a 7 minute walk from Epping Tube Station the bar has an intimate atmosphere with a beautiful marble bar top that adds a touch of glamour.
If you’re not captivated by the talented bar staff as they mix fabulous cocktails then you can sit back and enjoy some evening entertainment such as karaoke or live DJ’s.
