Christmassy carol singing and instrumental performances or plays are the perfect way to see in the festive season. Here are 9 great Christmas carol events taking place in your favourite Essex locations.
1. Audley End House – Carol Concerts
Get into the festive spirit and sing along to some Christmas carols at Audley End House & Gardens surrounded by the enchanting decorations and ambience of the House Great Hall. The event takes place on Tuesday 6 December from 6:30 until 8:30pm; tickets are £15 but are discounted to £10 for members. 2. Eastbury Manor – Christmas Carols
Can you picture a better place for carol singing than this strikingly beautiful Elizabethan gentry house? Neither can we, that’s why we’re thrilled to announce that The Kingsley Choral Group will be performing your favourite Christmas carols on 9 December from 7:00 till 9:00pm. Tickets can be purchased for £3 and there will be mulled wine and mince pies on sale in The Buttery café.
3. Hopefield Animal Sanctuary
The Hopefield Animal Sanctuary was founded in 1983 by Paula Clark and her husband Ernie Clark when they began caring for abandoned horses during a particularly harsh winter. Sadly both Paula and Ernie have since passed away but their Sanctuary still exists and continues to embody the care and dedication they had towards animal in need. 4. Chelmsford City Theatres - Santa in Love
Keep the kids entertained this Christmas with Chelmsford City Theatres’ ‘Santa in Love’. It’s the perfect opportunity to enjoy some festive theatre, sing your favourite Christmas songs and take part in some wonderful games. The show runs from 10 to 12 December with tickets starting at £5 with a £1.50 booking fee. The show runs for an hour and guests are given the chance to meet Santa and receive a free present!
5. Beth Chatto Gardens – Christmas Carols by Lantern Light
The Gravel Gardens at the Beth Chatto Gardens will be transformed on 21 December with festive Christmas lanterns and candles creating a magical atmosphere simply perfect for singing carols with a delicious glass of mulled wine. Guests must pre-book their tickets costing £5 which includes a warm drink and mince pie.
6. Colchester Castle – Christmas Open Evening
Enjoy a real seasonal treat this Christmas as Colchester Castle lowers the drawbridge and opens its doors for free! Immerse yourself in the Christmas atmosphere within the stunning backdrop of the castle’s ancient halls; enjoying a festive sing-song, mince pies and lots of wonderful festive entertainment. The event will take place on Wednesday 14 December from 3 till 8:30pm, booking will not be required.
7. Copped Hall – Epping Forest
Copped Hall is surrounded by some of the most breathtaking views that Essex has to offer and they are made only more beautiful during the frosty winter months. This year the Georgian Mansion is opening its doors to host four different Christmas themed carol evenings from groups such as The Copped Hall Choir and The Harlow Chorus. Taking place on 3,4,10 and 11 December, the carols will start at 3pm and tickets will cost £12. There will be mince pies and non-alcoholic punch included with the ticket.
8. Harlow Water Gardens – Christmas Lights Switch On
The Harlow Water Gardens is the perfect place for a family day out as it’s bursting with the best shops and top restaurants. The Christmas Lights Switch On taking place on Friday 18 November includes choirs, the Harlow playhouse and even a Frozen sing-a-long.
9. Queens Theatre, Hornchurch – Carols by Candlelight
See in the festive season with the internationally celebrated Locrian Ensemble alongside super soprano Jill Washington as they sing all of your beloved Christmas favourites such as White Christmas and Walking in the Air. Prices start at £16.50 with the performance taking place Sunday 18 December.
