Kate Lewis creative director at Promoworx design agency in South Woodford shares with WEL her favourite three restaurants in West Essex

1 The Village Kitchen in Walthamstow

The Village Kitchen in Walthamstow Village is by far my favourite local restaurant at the moment. Everyone I’ve recommended it to has also adopted it as one of their favourite hot spots to enjoy an innovative appetising meal. The atmosphere is friendly, inviting, with great music and fantastic food, and if you’ve never tried a red wine called ‘Chronic’ it’s an absolute must. It’s a great place for a romantic date or a catch up with friends, however, please be aware that some of their dishes are highly addictive. I’m currently stuck on the pork belly!

2 The Duke in Wanstead

The Duke is a fantastic local neighbourhood pub in Wanstead – I love the décor and the food. It’s warm and welcoming, fun and full of life. They take their event planning seriously, but it is also a great place to chill out with a good pint. I would definitely recommend this place for a Sunday session, and also check out the brunch menu, absolutely delicious!

3 Provender in Wanstead

Provender is a fabulous French café bistro in Wanstead High Street, which takes pride in its traditional French dishes. It is unusual to get such a good classic steak tartare locally, but this one is particularly great! It’s an informal and cosy bistro, whose staff are all so friendly and attentive that each time you visit you feel like a special guest.
