Loughton’s High Road is the staple food and shopping area for the town and is often described as one of the busiest high streets in the district. Amongst a variety of shops and restaurants, family-run business ‘Molen’s’ is proud to be in the heart of Loughton’s successful High Road as one of the original independent eateries in the area.

Established in 1985, the successful café brasserie is well known by local residents and visitors for its fresh and locally sourced food including its gourmet sandwiches, such as the number one best seller - Molen’s salt beef sandwich served with tasty pickle and fries.

Coming in as a close second are Molen’s renowned gourmet sandwich specials; another fond favourite with the customers. The mouth-watering sandwich consists of hot chicken escalopes served in a granary bap with lettuce, onion, cucumber, tomato, mayonnaise and lemon juice.

Haydar Guler, manager at the family establishment, has more than 20 years in the catering industry and explains that every dish served is freshly made to order. ‘I believe we cater to every single customer who walks through the door. All our food comes from local suppliers, who we have used since day one as they are the best.’

He continues to explain that every single element of the food served is never a disappointment. ‘We pay a lot of attention to detail and we focus one every single ingredient, which is to be selected carefully. We try to make it the best each time, which is the essential key for any good food.’

Molen’s recently reinvented its stylish Italian décor lounge dining area from a 62 seater to a 96 seater including a beautiful garden view to accommodate the busy lunch time service.

Haydar says: ‘We have queues at lunch time and I can’t always accommodate everyone, which is always a shame. However it is nice that we are so busy and customers keep coming back. People seem to love it here. We cater to all clientele from local business to ladies who lunch and we also get a variety of celebrities too.’

However, if sandwiches aren’t what your palette desires, Molen’s has an appealing menu for all including a good variety of breakfasts, lunches, pasta, sandwiches, omelettes, burgers, homemade milkshakes, fresh juices, bubble tea and much more.

‘We have recently introduced our Molen’s Burgers, which all have our own exclusive recipe. It has received such positive feedback and it shows our food does the talking,’ says Haydar.

He also explains that when you are at Molen’s you need to experience its hugely popular coffees made by its highly experienced baristas. ‘I think we serve more coffee than Starbucks in the High Road. They are very addictive.’
