Festive fun with a Mediterranean feel
Whether it’s a night out with school mums or an end of year office gathering, December’s the time to eat drink and be merry as the Christmas party season gets into full swing.
Sometimes your calendar is so full you can find yourself dining out more than you’re dining in and there’s a risk you’ll be tired of turkey dinners by December 25th.
South Woodford’s Mez Opotamia offers a fabulous alternative to traditional Christmas dinner with its glorious range of authentic Mediterranean fare.
Their festive menu, just £19.99 per person, begins with a variety of tempting starters from the mixed cold meze to the grilled Cypriot cheese served with fresh tomato and coriander salad.
Owner, Adar Coban, says: ‘Our menu takes its influence from many countries including Lebanon, Italy and Greece, so we guarantee there will be something to suit every taste.’
The festive mains are equally diverse, from the grilled tender lamb ribs and charcoal baby chicken to the mix fish kebab and lamb or chicken shish. There’s also traditional moussaka, both a meat and vegetarian option, served with rice and salad, and a kleftico, slowly-cooked lamb shank with carrots, potato and celery in chef’s special sauce.
Adar says: ‘Each and every dish is made fresh every day. Our focus is on taking the finest quality ingredients to create meals that look stunning and taste delicious.’
As a, probably, welcome alternative to traditional mince pies or Christmas pud, Mez Opotamia’s dessert range includes decadent baklava or kadayif, a rich banoffee pie or ice cream. Endless parties and dining out can leave you battling the bulge when you’d like to be looking your best, and Mez Opotamia has plenty of healthy delights that still feel decadent like the buffalo mozzarella with fresh tomato and pesto among the festive starters, to the fruit platter to finish your meal.
Even the main event doesn’t have to be calorific, the swordfish shish kebab, marinated and grilled or the whole sea Bass, both served with salad are a tasty, but health-conscious option.
Adar says: ‘Mediterranean cuisine offers plenty of opportunity to indulge and still feel virtuous, dishes that are beautifully presented and packed with taste but not packed with calories.’
With an elegant venue, large enough to accommodate parties of up to 200, Adar says: ‘It’s the perfect space to gather with friends or family for that special festive celebration.’ There’s also live entertainment from time-to-time, which could mean a display of belly dancing while you enjoy your meal.
As Adar says, along with great food and plentiful drink, all parties need a great atmosphere and Mez Opotamia prides itself on its warm welcome.
‘We love hosting events, whether it’s a child’s party or a hen night and we work hard to ensure each customer feels special and valued,’ she explains.
‘Our staff will always go that extra mile, ensuring everyone feels welcome and looked after. We really do try to treat every visitor to the restaurant as we would treat a guest in our homes.
