Children celebrate the classic story in a unique way...
Children at Avon House Preparatory School in Woodford Green have been studying the book Alice in Wonderland over the past half term to commemorate the 150th anniversary of its publication back in 1865.And to mark all their hard work the six and seven-year-olds, who are in Year 2, recently celebrated with a grand finale by hosting their very own Mad Hatters’ Tea Party.
The day began with children arriving at the school dressed as one of the characters from the Lewis Carroll book with numerous Alices and Mad Hatters, a few white rabbits, Kings and Queens of Hearts, Cheshire Cats an even a Dormouse.
Headteacher Amanda Campbell said: ‘The children all looked wonderful. They entered the hall to see a spectacular table set up, with rabbit and cupcake-shaped sandwiches, playing card pizza, jam tarts and amazing cupcakes that looked like Alice had fallen down the rabbit hole!’
Year two pupil Asia said: ;The bit I enjoyed best was when the Knave of Hearts (Mr Jerry Evans) kept stealing the marsh mallows and jam tarts!’
