The talented Lori Stansfeld talks to WEL about her impressive dancing skills, working hard and dreaming of her star role in The West End

Who are you and what do you do?

I’m Lori Stansfeld, I’m 16-years-old, and I am a 1st year student at CPA studios, doing a three year professional musical theatre course. When I’m not at college, I normally work as a dance and theatre teacher and/or a teaching assistant for children, which I absolutely love. I also do princess parties for children for different companies.

Where do you live and what do you like about it?

I live in Brentwood. I like living here because it’s only one train ride away from my college, so I am able to live at home and commute. I think Brentwood’s got a lot of good facilities and leisure’s available which I am so grateful to have.

Tell us about your family?

I have a very small family compared to many others. I live with my mum, Natalie, who also trained in professional dance and musical theatre. We live with our five-year-old cavapoo, Roxy. I am an only child. Luckily my dad, Nick, lives not too far away, with my step mum and two step brothers.

What is the most exciting thing that has happened to you over the past year?

Getting in to CPA studios. It was my top choice college for over two years, so finding out I had a place, and then starting there in September 2016 was amazing for me.

Who are your biggest influences?

Growing up seeing a ridiculous amount of pantomimes, plays and musicals that my mum was either in, or had choreographed, means I have been surrounded by theatre from a very young age. My mum is definitely one of my biggest influences in my life and has inspired me to peruse this art form as a career, and I wouldn’t have found a passion for it without her. It’s also great to have someone who understands all the hardship, self-doubt and both physical and emotional pain that performing arts has, and supports my interests.

Where do you see yourself in five years’ time?

It’s extremely hard to have an exact plan as so much can change in such a small period of time, but my goal would to simply be performing. I don’t really mind where. Obviously performing in the West End is the dream for every performing arts student, including me, but only time and hard work will tell if I am lucky enough to make it that far. Fingers crossed!

What is your worst habit?

I’d have to say my worse habit is skipping breakfast. It’s so important to eat and I almost always forget to have something - which is especially bad before I’m about to do a 10 hour college day.

Can you share any of your New Years resolutions?

One resolution of mine will be to help out more. I normally give any spare money to the homeless or in any buckets I see around town, but I still feel an urge to give a bit more.

Do you have a claim to fame?

Performing at The Palladium in the West End with my old theatre school as part of a charity show. We did a small medley of Les Mis, and we were one of the five schools asked to perform. It was a fantastic experience and lots of money was raised for Cancer Awareness - a charity very close to my heart.
